weTeach 09: Tools and Strategies for Enhancing Distance Delivery

What's New?

About weTeach 09

The weTeach project began in Spring 2008 as an extension of the RichMedia Project, a grant-funded professional development project for the UAF School of Education. In both projects, educators learned to use rich media tools and Web 2.0 tools to create instruction for their classes. weTeach 09 builds on those projects by focusing attention on learning to use these tools to enhance the quality of our distance delivered classes and to incorporate some of the most effective distance tools into our on-campus classes.

Thanks, Skip, for keeping us up to date on all that is available for us to use. I will do an analysis of data from a class I taught in both a distance and face to face format to determine the strengths and the deficits in both educational formats. I look forward to hearing what others have found as well.

I had a similar experience this semester. teaching one section of ED 329 fact to face and another section by distance. I learned quite a bit--not the least of which is that I want to change my face to face class to more closely resemble my distance class. It will be very beneficial to hear what you have and to compare notes.

I, too, am appreciative of the efforts made by Skip, Gary, and Don to keep us informed and up-to-date. In an effort to retain some of this information, I've done several podcasts and have used blogger for my class. The net results are yet to be determined, but I feel like I am stretching my limits at least. I have not had the luxury of separate distance and face classes: mine are combined.

Larry,

If you have the opportunity to do separate classes, it will be interesting to see what you think. I think my distance students have bonded more with each other than when they were will the face to face students. They have a lot in common with each other and have more opportunities to talk with each other than they do in the combined set-up.

My distance students bonded more with each other than did my on campus students, and in some ways they bonded with me more than did my on campus students. It's partly due to the nature of the individuals in the two classes, but I think it also has to do with the idea that distance students are looking for that sense of community and appreciate having opportunities to collaborate and share with others.
